Embracing the Call: Becoming a Wedding Officiant as an Ordinary Christian

The notion of becoming a wedding officiant might seem daunting, especially for ordinary Christians who may not have considered themselves as potential ministers. Yet, history tells us that ministry has never been solely reserved for professionals but has been embraced by ordinary individuals who feel called to serve in various capacities. In this article, we’ll explore the journey of becoming a wedding officiant, the legitimacy of this calling, and how organizations like Christian Leaders Alliance offer opportunities for ordination and ministry exploration.

Redefining Ministry: From Professionals to Volunteers

In the early church, ministry was not limited to professionals but was embraced by volunteers from all walks of life. Many of the men and women who served as ministers were ordinary individuals who felt a calling to spread the message of faith and love. This tradition highlights the legitimacy of ministry as a calling for anyone who feels compelled to serve.

Christian Leaders Alliance: Embracing Callings

Christian Leaders Alliance recognizes the diverse callings within the Christian community and offers an ordination program that welcomes individuals exploring ministry roles, including becoming wedding officiants. This inclusive approach acknowledges that ministry is not limited to a select few but is open to all who feel called to serve.

Becoming a Wedding Officiant with More Ministry Roles in the Future!

In my journey, I had never thought about being a wedding officiant. Then, an associate and friend asked me to officiate her wedding. Even though she was not a committed believer in the Lord and was actually a skeptic, she was clear about where my allegiance lies, as anyone who knows me would.

I comfortably and consistently talk about His involvement in my life, and He is who I rely on in a personal way. Even skeptics can lead us on a path God has intended for us to be on. Since completing this class, I feel this is just the beginning, and I am being led to a deeper dive into ministry… to what degree that is still in prayer.

The Lord has been the center of my life for most of it, but not always or mostly in the traditional way. I was not raised in a family where God was the center or even where church attendance was encouraged, but I had extended family and individuals who were faithful warriors and gave me a sense of guidance and example through their faithfulness and simple knowledge. God led me on a journey of seeking His Word and learning His ways and expectations to lead a Christian lifestyle to the best of my human ability.

Faithfully, He brought many people who were devoted to Him and knowledgeable in His Word to guide me toward His intended purpose for my life. This drove me to seek Him wholeheartedly and to invest in regularly studying the Bible and seeking out ways to learn more from pastors and apologists across the country and throughout history. With this first step as an officiant of weddings and where that will lead, I am not sure, but I believe it is the beginning of a new journey toward a deeper ability to share God with those who are brought into my life.
